/ PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Current portable espresso makers don't generate enough pressure to pull true espresso, aren't aesthetic enough to be displayed at home, are difficult to clean, and create waste due to their reliance on disposable pods.
The solution was to design a portable, aesthetic, easy to clean, environmentally and spatially conscious espresso maker using industrial design best practices and processes.

The final product addresses all key pain points identified during user research.

The mood-board primarily inspired the aesthetic of the product.

The prototype (above) that informed the elements of the final product (below). From bottom left to bottom right; the portafilter is compatible with any standard 1-2 cup filter cup to reduce pod waste, the piston has 1-way air flow to generate the 9 BARs of pressure needed to pull a shot, and all pieces thread together and apart with a tolerance that allows proper pressurization but enables easy cleaning.

The minimalist form and neutral color scheme facilitate usability within and beyond outdoor recreation.

The exploded product view demonstrates ease of assembly for use and disassembly for cleaning.

/ RESULTS
The product generates enough pressure to pull true espresso, reduces clean time by nearly 1 minute, and produces zero waste.
The biggest learning was users don't have to sacrifice aesthetics for functionality.
